Without sounding like a broken record and for those of you not of the baby boomer generation, a broken CD….technology can be a curse or a blessing. Even with all of us back at it, the texts and phone calls keep coming. Pleas from finders of cats and kittens that are dumped on their property, texts from fosters who need supplies, have problems with sick cats (BTW the cat with diarrhea on the last posting was fine but we have another one), staff at Pet Valu worried about a kitten and having to go and pick it up and move it…..another supper half eaten.

As I do the paperwork keeping track of close to 70 cats, they all become numbers with dates and the more we have, the more challenging it is….so taking a litter of 8 week old kittens for their vet check and vaccinations, one look into their huge beautiful eyes reminds me and melts my frustrated, stressed heart that yes, this is why we do what we do.

I know from volunteering for Kitty Kare that the rescue world is a terribly emotional place to be…..and for me, that is a deadly reality. I would have a house FULL of animals if I could afford to. Sad part is that the constant call of people looking for a place to “pass off” the kittens they have found, or know about or are looking to “re-home”…..this would send me probably right to jail…..I just cannot stand how folks think that kittens are throw away pets! When they are no longer kitten-ish, or become ill, or pregnate….or the people move away and leave them behind to fend for themselves. ….it makes me sooooooo MAD…..small animals, kittens or puppies are a lifelong responsibility!
They might be FREE in the ad, but they are NOT FREE in real life. They need good quality food; veterinary care; SPAYED OR NEUTERED and love…….think about this before you decide to bring a kitten into your home….they are FAMILY 🙂
