Always good to have friends in rescue. I had emailed a few rescues with some questions about best practice and one woman from a well known rescue in Toronto, responded. We spent some time playing telephone tag and finally connected. It was good to talk, ask questions, compare and vent.  I think we should have […]

Always. We pulled 8 kittens varying in age from 6 to 12 weeks and 7 adults last week.  We contacted every foster on file asking if they were still available but what with the holidays, I think people are reluctant to commit..and understandably so. We will revisit that in the fall. Some of our student fosters […]

The mother cat accepted the baby. James left a message. “Just calling. He’s been fine for 3 hours now. Not a peep out of him. It’s been eating and she’s been taking care of it. I guess a miracle happened today. Right on.” Yes….Right on.

DI 503990 was picked up from Queen Street early April. He was so afraid but despite that, he showed no aggression to kennel staff. He couldn’t make himself small enough in his kennel, cowering in fear. Who knows what trauma he experienced. As his owner did not claim this poor soul, DI 503990 was scheduled […]

It’s hard to believe that we’re already mid July and as someone reminded me last month, the days are getting shorter. Gee thanks for that. Hope this warm weather continues but feeling for those dealing with fires and extreme heat. As expected, the rescue carried on without me, with the important work of adoptions and pulling […]

There may not be a blog entry for a few weeks. I need a break as I am burning out.  I need time for myself to recuperate and be re-energized. There is such a thing as rescue burn out and it is time for ‘me time’.   I’ve gone over the paperwork stuff that needs to be done, […]

The culmination of a long week, the yard sale on Saturday was a success. Our supporters were fabulous – donating all sorts of good quality gently-used items which took hours and hours to sort. Thankfully 2 volunteers donated hours of their time to help: Laura and Ken’s help was priceless and I didn’t feel so overwhelmed looking […]
